Salary/Hourly Rate:
$72k – $82k
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a driven, solutions-oriented Cosmetic Chemist to develop high-quality personal care and cosmetic formulations in a fast-moving, client-centric environment. This role requires balancing technical expertise with responsiveness, ensuring projects move efficiently from concept to commercialization while exceeding client expectations. The ideal candidate thrives under tight timelines, communicates clearly with cross-functional teams and customers, and takes ownership of delivering innovative, stable, and scalable formulations.
Responsibilities of the Cosmetic Chemist:
- Translate client briefs into commercially viable cosmetic and personal care formulations.
- Develop and optimize skincare, haircare, color cosmetic, or OTC formulations from concept through scale-up.
- Conduct bench trials, stability testing, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations.
- Troubleshoot and reformulate products based on client feedback, cost targets, or regulatory requirements.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams to meet launch timelines.
- Ensure compliance with FDA and applicable international cosmetic regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with GMP standards.
- Support raw material evaluation, cost optimization, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
Required Experience/Skills for the Cosmetic Chemist:
- Industry awareness and knowledge of trends, raw materials, and policies.
- 2 – 7+ years of hands-on cosmetic formulation experience, with the ability to reverse engineer.
- Strong knowledge of emulsions, surfactants, rheology modifiers, actives, and preservation systems.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Cosmetic Chemist:
- Experience in contract manufacturing, private labeling, or fast-paced development environments is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to pivot quickly.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field is required.
