Our client is a privately held, specialized finance firm focused on providing liquidity solutions to creditors holding claims against companies undergoing bankruptcy. The company operates within the distressed and special situations space, investing in and underwriting claims across complex restructuring situations. The firm offers a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with direct exposure to investment decision-making. They are now looking for a Distressed Analyst.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$170k – $200k
Position Overview:
The Distressed Analyst will support the evaluation, underwriting, and execution of distressed investment opportunities, with a focus on bankruptcy claims. This individual will work closely with senior team members to analyze credit risk, model recoveries, and assess opportunities across Chapter 11 and other restructuring scenarios.
Responsibilities of the Distressed Analyst:
- Analyze and evaluate bankruptcy claims and distressed investment opportunities.
- Build and maintain financial models, including cash flow projections and recovery/waterfall analyses.
- Assess creditworthiness and underlying collateral in restructuring situations.
- Review legal documentation, including court filings and plans of reorganization.
- Support underwriting and execution of claim purchases.
- Monitor active cases and update valuations based on developments.
- Partner with senior team members on investment decision-making.
Required Experience/Skills for the Distressed Analyst:
- Experience in bankruptcy trade claims, distressed investing, or restructuring advisory.
- Strong understanding of the bankruptcy process, including Chapter 11 and DIP financing.
- Background in a financial advisory, credit, or investment-focused role.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong financial modeling capabilities (cash flows and waterfalls).
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Distressed Analyst:
- Direct experience evaluating or trading bankruptcy claims.
- Exposure to special situations or opportunistic credit investing.
- Experience working in a lean or entrepreneurial environment.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
