Our valued client, a reputable and fast-growing outpatient clinic, is seeking a Medical Collections Specialist to join their dynamic Revenue Cycle department. The Medical Collections Specialist is a quintessential people person who loves coming up with new ideas, has a customer service approach, and is goal-oriented.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$19/hr – $23/hr
Position Overview:
This Medical Collections Specialist will be joining the cohesive Revenue Cycle team, reporting directly to the Billing Manager, and will be responsible for the full cycle medical collections process. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a Medical Collections Specialist professional to join a growing medical group with progression opportunities and upside.
Responsibilities of the Medical Collections Specialist:
- Read an EOB and patient account ledger.
- Run and maintain weekly reports.
- Follow up with patients to collect monies owed.
- Assist patients on the phone and in-person regarding the patient account.
- Research patient accounts and answer patient questions.
- Set up payment plans according to predefined guidelines.
- Educate the patient regarding their bill.
- Manage the work files and make outbound calls to patients or the responsible parties.
- Monitor accounts to ensure statements are being distributed and payments are being made.
- Monitor the aging of all patient balances and escalate as needed.
- Responsible for resolving escalated calls from Customer Service Reps to the next level.
- Document and update insurance information when necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Type a minimum of 35 wpm.
Required Experience/Skills for the Medical Collections Specialist:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in Medical Collections Specialist.
- Working experience with patient collections and reading EOBs.
- Must have experience within a medical center or healthcare setting.
- Ability to meet deadline requirements and manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify, and address problematic situations.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Medical Collections Specialist:
- Experienced in working in Orthopedics and/or outpatient clinics.
- Experienced in working within a hospital or surgical setting.
- Experienced in working within other areas of Revenue Cycle Management.
Education Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or higher is preferred but not required for this position.
