Client Overview:

Our client is a respected CPA firm delivering comprehensive accounting and advisory services. The firm supports diverse clients with financial expertise and compliance solutions. They are known for their collaborative environment and commitment to professional development. They are now looking for a Payroll Accountant.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$50k – $65k

Position Overview:

The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing payroll and accounts payable processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely execution. This role will collaborate closely with HR and Finance teams to maintain accurate records, reconcile accounts, and support month-end and year-end close activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant:

  • Process vendor invoices accurately and timely within accounting systems (NetSuite).
  • Match invoices to supporting documentation for accuracy.
  • Prepare and process vendor payments (ACH, check, wire).
  • Maintain vendor records and W-9 documentation.
  • Monitor accounts payable aging and resolve discrepancies with vendors.
  • Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting.
  • Reconcile accounts payable, clearing, and accrual accounts.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Process multi-state payroll accurately and timely.
  • Review payroll reports for accuracy, including hours, benefits, deductions, and reimbursements.
  • Coordinate with HR regarding new hires, terminations, and employee updates.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Reconcile payroll clearing accounts and payroll tax liabilities.
  • Assist with payroll tax filings and quarterly reporting.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and audit trails.
  • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries.

Required Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:

  • 3+ years of experience in accounts payable and payroll processing.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and multi-state payroll compliance.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:

  • Experience in public accounting or a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with payroll tax filings and quarterly reporting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
