Our client is a rapidly growing consumer products organization specializing in personal care innovation. The company focuses on developing high-quality, science-driven products and values collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement across cross-functional teams. They are currently looking to add an R&D Chemist to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$30/hr – $35/hr
Position Overview:
The R&D Chemist will support research and development efforts focused on the formulation and improvement of personal care products. The R&D Chemist develops new formulations, refines existing products, and conducts laboratory testing while collaborating with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, packaging, and marketing.
Responsibilities of the R&D Chemist:
- Develop new product formulations and reformulate existing products under guidance.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory documentation and database records.
- Conduct and monitor stability testing (e.g., texture, odor, pH, viscosity) and summarize results.
- Prepare, label, and submit product samples in accordance with standard procedures.
- Support project timelines, ensuring alignment with cost and delivery objectives.
- Evaluate and research new raw materials for potential use in future formulations.
- Participate in troubleshooting and resolving formulation-related challenges.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while effectively prioritizing workload.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D function.
Required Experience/Skills for the R&D Chemist:
- Available to start working immediately. Local candidates are preferred.
- 2 – 3 years of experience in personal care or cosmetic formulation.
- Practical laboratory experience, including batching, compounding, and evaluating formulations.
- Strong understanding of formulation principles (emulsions, surfactant systems, rheology, preservation systems, etc.).
- Experience conducting stability testing and interpreting results (e.g., pH, viscosity, phase separation, color, odor).
- Knowledge of raw materials, including functional properties and compatibility within formulations.
- Familiarity with scale-up considerations and transitioning formulas from lab to pilot/manufacturing environments.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the R&D Chemist:
- Familiarity with industry trends in personal care or beauty products.
- Experience working with formulation databases or lab information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Exposure to cross-functional product development environments.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required.
