Our client is a government financing authority that provides low-cost funding to local municipalities and counties for critical infrastructure projects. They issue bonds to support initiatives that may not receive direct state funding, helping communities complete large-scale improvements such as environmental and public works projects. They are now looking for a Senior Accountant.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$35/hr – $40/hr
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will support the finance team on an 8-month temporary assignment covering a maternity leave. The role includes a structured training period alongside the current employee, followed by full responsibility during their absence. This position will play a key role in maintaining daily accounting operations and supporting two concurrent audits.
Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Perform account reconciliations and financial analysis.
- Assist with month-end and general accounting processes.
- Support audit activities, including preparation of schedules and documentation.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, especially during audit periods.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:
- Experience in government or nonprofit accounting environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics (preferred but not required).
- Advanced Excel skills such as Index/Match.
- Experience supporting or participating in audits.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
