Our client, a growing affordable housing organization in the Fort Lauderdale area, is seeking a Director of Accounting to join their growing team. Salary/Hourly Rate:

$140k – $150k

Position Overview:

The Director of Accounting will handle all aspects of accounting and reporting for the corporate entity.  There are dozens of smaller entities and properties that roll up into the corporate books.

Responsibilities of the Director of Accounting: 

  • The Director of Accounting will analyze the general ledger, calculate accruals, and prepare journal entries.
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations and analyze variances.
  • The Director of Accounting will provide monthly P&L commentary and variance analysis.
  • Assist in the internal and external audits.
  • The Director of Accounting will manage relationships and liaise with external customers (Operations and Finance team, Auditors).
  • Participate in projects to continue to improve close process efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Record monthly accrual entries.
  • Take charge of payables, writing checks, posting entries, bank reconciliations, monthly financials, working on audits, and intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain an understanding of how government money is funded and the regulations under the government.
  • Oversee the development arm of the business income. Refinance of assets, construction, lots of finance sourcing, construction draws, and flows up to consolidated reports.

Required Experience/Skills for the Director of Accounting:

  • 10 years minimum experience within Real Estate accounting.
  • Experience and deep knowledge of Affordable Housing Programs – HUD, LIHTC, Section 8.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
