A highly esteemed research company with an established reputation is seeking a Facilities Technician (Lab Setting) with prior experience working in a laboratory, research, or R&D facility. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity.

$25/hr – $30/hr

Position Overview:

The Facilities Technician (Lab Setting) will support the daily operations and maintenance of the facility. This role involves a mix of general repairs, equipment fabrication, and upkeep of both laboratory and office spaces. The ideal candidate is skilled with hand and power tools—including drills, mills, and lathes—and has a working knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing systems.

Responsibilities of the Facilities Technician (Lab Setting):

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of lab equipment, office fixtures, and facility infrastructure.
  • Operate a variety of tools and machinery (drills, mills, lathes, saws) to fabricate or repair components as needed.
  • Carry out basic electrical tasks, including replacing ballasts, outlets, and lighting fixtures (under supervision).
  • Support light plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, repairing leaks, or installing faucets and fixtures.
  • Assist with workspace organization, including setting up lab benches, workstations, and storage systems.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and spare parts; ensure tools are in working condition.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers for specialized work or projects.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Required Experience/Skills of the Facilities Technician (Lab Setting):

  • 1 – 3 years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, equipment fabrication, or similar roles.
  • Proficiency in using power tools and machining equipment, with experience working with metals, plastics, and wood.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems (e.g., outlets, lighting) and plumbing systems (e.g., drains, leaks).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a self-starter attitude toward resolving facility issues.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and stand or work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Effective communication and a collaborative mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for supporting a scientific research environment and eagerness to learn new skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills of the Facilities Technician (Lab Setting):

  • Prior experience working in a laboratory, research, or R&D facility.
  • OSHA certification or other relevant safety training.
  • 3D printing experience.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
