Our client is a personal care manufacturing company specializing in skincare, hair care, and cosmetic product development. We are seeking a Formulations Chemist (Personal Care & Cosmetics) to join our client’s innovative R&D team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$90k – $100k Annually

Position Overview:

This role focuses on developing and testing a wide range of personal care and cosmetic products. The ideal candidate will have hands-on formulation experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior chemists. This position also supports manufacturing scale-up, lab documentation, and process improvements.

Responsibilities of the Formulations Chemist (Personal Care & Cosmetics):

  • Develop and refine formulations for skincare, hair care, personal care, and color cosmetics.
  • Conduct product testing and troubleshoot formulation challenges.
  • Supervise and mentor junior chemists in lab activities and technical development.
  • Maintain accurate lab records and follow cGMP procedures.
  • Support lab efficiency initiatives and manage raw material data.
  • Participate in internal meetings and provide technical updates.
  • Assist with project management, customer calls, and documentation of lab procedures and specifications.
  • Attend scale-up and manufacturing runs to ensure successful product transition.
  • Stay current with industry trends by attending cosmetic seminars and meetings.

Required Experience/Skills for the Formulations Chemist (Personal Care & Cosmetics):

  • 5+ years of experience in the formulation of makeup, OTC, or skincare products.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior chemists.
  • Strong knowledge of formulation science and cosmetic regulations (FDA, CTFA, PCPC).
  • Familiarity with cGMP and manufacturing scale-up processes.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Formulations Chemist (Personal Care & Cosmetics):

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in computer and lab software tools.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Master’s degree in Cosmetic Science is preferred.
