Client Overview:

Our client is an established apparel company specializing in Women’s and Men’s categories is seeking a Freelance Assistant Designer with experience in sweaters or wovens. This team-driven environment offers the opportunity to support the full design lifecycle and contribute to seasonal product development.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$25/hr – $30/hr

Position Overview:

The Freelance Assistant Designer will support the Sweaters/Wovens Design team in day-to-day tasks, including creating CADs from hand sketches, developing tech packs, preparing trims and color cards, and assisting with line sheets. This role is ideal for someone highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to work across multiple stages of the design process.

Responsibilities of the Freelance Assistant Designer:

• Support the Design team in all aspects of the design process from concept through final seasonal deliveries.
• Create technical flats, assist with patternmaking/draping, and participate in model fittings.
• Produce hand sketches and translate them into CADs.
• Assist with seasonal concept research and development.
• Create tech packs and help maintain line sheets.
• Support material development and color sourcing.
• Attend fit sessions and take detailed notes on revisions, fit comments, and updates.

Required Experience/Skills for the Freelance Assistant Designer:

• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Knowledge of sweaters.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Freelance Assistant Designer:

• Woven experience is a plus.
• PLM experience is a plus.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design is required.
