Client Overview:

Our client is a well-known contemporary brand that is hiring for a Freelance Associate Designer – Knits, focusing on women’s knits, to join their team. They do products across multiple categories, including women’s, men’s, accessories, and more. 

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$35/hr – $38/hr Depending on experience 

Position Overview:

The Freelance Associate Designer – Knits will focus on the women’s knitwear category, contributing to all aspects of design development from concept to final product. This role partners closely with the Senior Designer, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to deliver innovative, high-quality product that aligns with seasonal direction and brand identity.

Responsibilities of the Freelance Associate Designer – Knits:

  • Research and identify emerging trends, inspiration, and fabric innovations in women’s knits.
  • Support in developing seasonal concept boards, color stories, and silhouette direction.
  • Sketch flat and detailed technical drawings (hand or CAD) for presentation and line development.
  • Work closely with the Senior Designer to build assortments and ensure product consistency with the brand aesthetic.
  • Partner with Product Development and Technical Design to ensure accurate execution of fit, construction, and quality standards.
  • Review lab dips, strike-offs, and knit downs to ensure alignment with design intent.
  • Communicate with factories and vendors on design packages, revisions, and sample comments.
  • Assist in the preparation of design presentations and milestone meetings.
  • Maintain organization of samples, fabrics, trims, and seasonal archives.

Required Experience/Skills for the Freelance Associate Designer – Knits:

  • 2 – 4 years of experience in women’s design, preferably in knits or sweaters within the contemporary market.
  • Strong hand sketching and CAD skills (Illustrator, Photoshop required).
  • Excellent understanding of knit structures, yarns, and finishing techniques.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Freelance Associate Designer – Knits:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or equivalent is required.
