Our client, a growing commercial real estate firm with a large portfolio of properties throughout the US and overseas, is seeking to add an additional Property Accountant to their team. This organization is a very youthful, energetic company that regularly seeks out new investment opportunities.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$85k – $95k

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions for assigned properties within the company’s real estate portfolio. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with company policies, and timely communication with property managers and senior leadership.

Responsibilities of the Property Accountant:

  • Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, escrow accounts, and security deposits on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and monthly variance analyses against actual results.
  • Track tenant billings, rent collections, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) charges, and lease-related adjustments.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with property managers to address financial issues, cash flow, and operating performance.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal accounting regulations.
  • Participate in process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.

Required Experience/Skills for the Property Accountant:

  • 1+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices.
  • Proficiency with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage) is a plus.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Word and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Property Accountant:

  • CPA or CPA in progress.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
