Our client, an insurance broker based out of Manhattan, NY seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team!
Salary/Hourly Rate:
Up to $120,000 base + bonus
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing financial operations, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements within the insurance industry. This Senior Accountant position offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to the financial success and growth of our organization.
Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including preparation of financial statements and reconciliations
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of transactions
- Manage the general ledger and maintain chart of accounts in accordance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines
- Conduct variance analysis and financial performance reviews to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities to support strategic decision-making
- Prepare regulatory filings and reports as required by insurance regulatory authorities
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and regulatory examinations
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development
- Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry best practices, and ensure compliance with relevant updates
Qualifications for the Senior Accountant:
- Thorough understanding of GAAP principles and familiarity with statutory accounting principles (SAP) for insurance companies
- Proficiency in accounting software such as [insert software names], as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and precision in financial reporting

Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
- CPA or CMA certification is preferred
