Our client is a global fashion and lifestyle apparel company with a diverse portfolio of over 40 internationally recognized brands across apparel, swimwear, golf, and lifestyle categories. They are currently looking to add a Senior Technical Designer to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$105k – $130k Annually

Position Overview:

The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for building and maintaining garment specifications and fit standards from concept through final approval. This role ensures consistency, quality, and brand standards across categories while problem-solving technical challenges related to construction, grading, and fit. The Senior Technical Designer will collaborate with cross-functional partners, vendors, and overseas offices to deliver best-in-class products that meet both aesthetic and commercial objectives.

Responsibilities of the Senior Technical Designer:

  • Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Sourcing, and Product Development to align on fit, construction, and design intent.
  • Develop specifications, garment construction methods, and cost engineering for assigned categories.
  • Lead fit sessions to ensure brand aesthetic, silhouette, proportion, and quality are achieved.
  • Analyze prototypes and fit samples for measurement, construction, and finishing accuracy.
  • Communicate fit intent and revisions to vendors and overseas partners with clarity and accuracy.
  • Ensure consistency in technical design standards across vendors and product categories.
  • Proactively identify and resolve production, quality, and costing issues.
  • Manage timelines and deliverables to meet calendar milestones.
  • Provide technical expertise during key meetings and cross-functional reviews.
  • Mentor and supervise direct reports as needed.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Technical Designer:

  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Design.
  • Strong background in garment fitting, patternmaking, construction methods, grading, and product engineering.
  • Experience developing technical spec packages and ensuring production-ready accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of fabric, trims, and inner components.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, and PLM systems.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Technical Designer:

  • Knowledge of computer patternmaking or 3D software such as Gerber AccuMark, Lectra, Optitex, Browzwear, or Clo.
  • Supervisory or mentorship experience with direct reports.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience across multiple apparel categories.

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design, Technical Design, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) is required.
